What are Open Graph tags?
Open Graph (OG) tags are HTML meta tags in your <head> that tell social platforms how your link should render when shared. The five that matter most are og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url, and twitter:card.
What size should og:image be in 2026?
1200 × 630 pixels is the universal size — it works on Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Slack, iMessage and Discord. Keep the file under 1 MB and use PNG or JPG. WebP works on Facebook, LinkedIn and Slack but X and iMessage still prefer PNG.
Why does my preview not update when I share the link?
Every platform caches OG previews aggressively. Facebook can hold an old preview for up to 30 days. Use Facebook’s Sharing Debugger, X’s Card Validator, or LinkedIn’s Post Inspector to force a refresh after you change your tags.
What is the difference between og:title and twitter:title?
twitter:title is only used by X if no og:title is set. In 2026, X falls back to og:title for almost everything — you only need twitter-prefixed tags if you want different content specifically for X.
Why does Slack show a small thumbnail instead of a big image?
Slack respects twitter:card — set it to "summary_large_image" to get the big-image card. Without it, Slack falls back to the small-thumbnail "summary" layout.
Does Discord support Open Graph?
Yes — Discord respects og:title, og:description, og:image, and theme-color. It will also use twitter:card to decide between large-image and small-thumbnail layouts.
