FAQ
Frequently asked
What is the character limit on X (Twitter) in 2026?
Free accounts can post up to 280 characters. X Premium and Premium+ subscribers can post up to 25,000 characters in a single post, but engagement still drops sharply past the 280-character mark.
Do URLs count toward the character limit on X?
Yes — every URL on X counts as 23 characters regardless of its actual length. X automatically wraps links in t.co, which is always the same length, so a 200-character URL and a 12-character URL both count the same.
How are emoji and accented characters counted?
Most networks count by UTF-16 code units, which means a flag emoji like 🇺🇸 can count as 4. Bluesky counts by graphemes (visible characters), so the same flag counts as 1. Our counter shows both characters and graphemes — pick the right one for your target network.
What is the Instagram caption limit?
2,200 characters, but only the first 125 are visible before the "more" link. Front-load your hook and put hashtags below a line break or in the first comment.
Is there a hashtag limit per network?
Instagram and Threads cap at 30 hashtags per post. LinkedIn ignores anything past about 3–5. X effectively penalizes posts with more than 2. TikTok has no hard cap but a 2,200-character caption ceiling that includes your hashtags.
Are hidden characters like zero-width spaces counted?
Yes — every codepoint counts, including invisible ones. If your counter shows more characters than you expect, paste your text into a Unicode inspector to find stray hidden characters from copy-paste.
